SES: the world's satellites coverage

UI/UX, Interaction design, 2018

The SES Our Coverage project was designed during my internship at Catch Digital in London in 2018.

The Client

SES is one of the world's leading satellite operators with over 70 satellites in two different orbits, geostationary orbit (GEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO). After a complete redesign of their whole website, SES needed to showcase the full coverage of their satellites.

Brief

The brief was to create an interface that would be displayed on different devices: mobile, website, touchscreens, and massive screens during events and on tablet during interviews.

The current app has a highly interactive 3D map and has been designed to be used on touch screen. However the navigation is confusing, the UI doesn’t work on small devices and the navigation between satellites is complicated to understand.

Users

This service needed to be easily handled by professionals of the industry and new uniformed customers as well. Among users, prospects are the potential customers who are looking for a new satellite provider, SES Network customers are the existing customers who work in the Telecom and ISP space, SES Video Customers are existing customers who work in the media and broadcast space and finally SES Sales people.

Users don’t know what solution they need but they know the problem they want to solve. We should design the experience around user needs. Give users tools to be able to share and download information to help their team with decision making.

We wanted to make it easy for TV Channel customers to tell where they was to broadcast and filter their solutions based on that and for Video prospects to package up their favorite satellite footprint data to share with the rest of their team. But also to make sur for SES sale représentant that the platform is as stable as possible

Create a rich immersive experience that users will find impactful and functional.

Goals

Create a sales tool to help drive interest and support decision makers looking for a new satellite provider. Showcase SES unique offering and allow user to explore Work universally and reliably on all devices and all circumstances Driving engagement

Creating a solution centric interface based on user needs.

This project was a real challenge because of the really complex architecture and the different levels of search we needed to develop.
